Initial career experience in linoleum and textile printing industries. He has been a plastics industry specialist since1978.  He has been Director-General of the British Plastics Federation since July 2014. He is a Board member of the European Plastics Converters Association and has served as Chairman of both its Environment and Communications Committees. He has been the Secretary General of CIPAD, the association of global plastics trade bodies.
